About Us

About us

Fairplay Chamber Music is a not-for-profit organisation exclusively funded by donations, public grants and ticket sales, with additional support from our business partners. We sincerely thank our sponsors and partners for their essential support. The support from our partners and sponsors is invaluable and indispensable as we continue to develop and provide an innovative, diverse cultural programme of events.

Goals and Values

Goals and values

Fairplay Chamber Music strives to create a forum for cultural exchange at the highest international level. We also want to be part of the positive and progressive forces that work to make society a better place for everyone. Therefore, FCM chooses to actively work with the UNs Sustainable Development Goals. Some direct results are that:

  • Every decision at FCM is taken with regard to its consequences for the climate and the environment. This means, among other things, that all the artists and students traveling to and from the festival may only cause minimal carbon dioxide emissions (no flying or gasoline cars) and that the food served is vegetarian and mainly locally sourced.
  • Fairplay Chamber Music’s gender equality policy means that the festival’s artists are always in the range of 40/60 for each gender. The same principles apply to FCM’s board and organization.
  • The educational programs are free of charge and are created with the students’ needs at heart.
  • Collaborations are made with organizations that share FCM’s goals and values.
  • The festival’s thematic content intends to create a peaceful, equal and inclusive society.

We are actively looking for opportunities and ways to collaborate with organizations that contribute to a positive societal development. We want FCM to be benefitial to as many people as possible and gratefully accept all suggestions on how we can develop in the future.

Artistic directors

JAKOB KORANYI & PETER FRIIS JOHANSSON
founders and artistic directors

Cellist Jakob Korany and pianist Peter Friis Johansson have been friends since their early student days. Beyond their friendship, the two share a close musical connection and are frequent collaborators from recording their debut album together to numerous concerts and projects around their native Sweden.

For both Jakob and Peter, Kulturhuset i Ytterjärna has been a place of inspiration and musical possibilities. After years of developing their professional careers independently, the pair decided to once again join forces and founded Fairplay Chamber Music as the Järna Festival Academy in 2017.

Fairplay Chamber Music is a multi-faceted cultural, educational and community space. FCM presents a series of events to a broad spectrum of people (many free of cost), tuition-free musical education and hosts an innovative and high-calibre chamber music festival. FCM works closely with El Sistema Södertälje and numerous local companies that align with the organisation’s ethos to make a meaningful contribution to society and the world of classical music.
